Until recently there hasn’t been a method to permanently remove unwanted hair. Getting rid of unwanted hair could be inconvenient, expensive, very painful and temporary. Join the growing number of Americans who are switching to laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal is a relatively new and exciting technology which has become very popular over the last few years. With a beam of light, you can attain permanent hair reduction on practically any part of your body.

At The Center for Laser Cosmetic Procedures, Dr. Gertzman and his staff are experts in the field of laser hair removal. His training and experience will provide the security you should have and all the information you will need prior to your procedure.
How does the laser remove hair?

The laser emits a focused beam of light that is absorbed by the pigment (or color) in the hair follicle and hair shaft. The energy the laser delivers to the follicles eliminates their ability to re-grow or produce hair. The laser energy is selectively absorbed by the follicle, so there is no damage to the surrounding skin.

Is the laser hair removal permanent?
Yes. At the Center for Laser Cosmetic Procedures, we use the LightSheer Diode Laser. The F.D.A. (Food & Drug Administration) has approved the LightSheer Diode Laser for “permanent reduction” of unwanted hair. Studies have shown that if you have a series of treatments at four to six week intervals, 85 to 90% of the hairs should not re-grow.

What is the advantage of removing hair using our laser versus traditional methods?
he LightSheer Diode Laser can effectively remove hair much faster, more reliably and more comfortably than most other methods.

Other methods such as shaving, tweezing and waxing are only temporary methods for removing unwanted hair and can cause bumps or skin irritation.

Electrolysis can remove unwanted hair, but the process involves treating one single hair at a time by inserting a needle through the skin at the base of each hair and applying an electric current. Whereas electrolysis kills only one hair follicle at a time, our laser can treat dozens of hair follicles at a time (hundreds of hair follicles in minutes) in a noninvasive manner.

Are all lasers the same?

No. There are several types of systems and lasers used for hair removal. At The Center for Laser Cosmetic Procedures, we use the LightSheer Diode Laser.

We prefer this laser because in rigorous scientific trials as well as extensive clinical practice, the LightSheer Diode Laser has emerged as the gold standard in laser hair removal. The LightSheer system was designed from the ground up for effective hair removal, providing unsurpassed safety, efficacy, reliability, and ease-of-use.

In addition, only the LightSheer Diode Laser has a patented sapphire crystal tip that naturally cools and soothes the skin throughout the procedure. No coolants or skin-irritating sprays are required.

What parts of the body can be treated?

The LightSheer Diode Laser is suitable to treat virtually all areas of the body, including the face, legs, arms and back. In addition, it effectively treats sensitive areas like the bikini line, underarms and ears. Pilonidal cysts or ingrown hairs can also be treated with our laser.

Is it safe?

The LightSheer Diode Laser has been clinically tested and FDA-approved. Each laser pulse lasts only a fraction of a second—just long enough to eliminate the hair follicle, but not long enough to damage the surrounding skin. The unique sapphire laser tip actively cools the skin before, during and after each laser pulse, an added safety measure to protect the skin.

Who performs the procedure?

At the Center for Laser Cosmetic Procedures, all laser hair removal treatments are performed by licensed, board certified, medical doctors.

Does it hurt?

While some areas are more sensitive than others, the vast majority of patients tolerate the procedure very well. There may be a mild discomfort associated with the treatment, often described as the sensation of a rubber band snapping.

The LightSheer Diode Laser has a patented hand piece with anesthetic properties. Additionally, test areas are treated to assess a patient’s comfort level and treatments are modified accordingly. For sensitive areas, patients may apply a topical anesthetic, Emla® Cream, one hour prior to the procedure. This helps to reduce the potential for discomfort.

How long does the procedure take?

The length of time it takes depends on the body part being treated. Because lasers treat dozens of hairs at a time, a facial area may be treated in as little as 5 to 10 minutes. Larger areas, such as a man’s back may take an hour or more.

How many treatments are needed?
The laser works by disabling hairs that are in their active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since hairs will enter their growth cycles at different times, an average of 5 to 7 treatments are usually necessary to disable the follicles in a given area.

What preparation is required?

Do not bleach, wax or pluck hairs for 3 weeks prior to the procedure. Avoid tanning immediately before or after your treatment. Hair should be shaved prior to your appointment.

Is there any recovery time?

Patients should require no “down time” after the procedure. They may apply makeup or exercise immediately. Some patients may experience mild redness. This normally resolves within a few hours. Aloe should be applied on the treated area for added comfort. Tanning must be avoided immediately after the treatment and the use of sun block is strongly recommended.

How much does it cost?

The fees for Laser Hair Removal are determined by the body area to be treated. The physician consultation is free, with no obligation. All prices will be discussed at the consultation, and there are no hidden charges. Discount packages are available for multiple treatments and multiple treatment areas.
