HAIR REDUCTION

What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy is FDA approved to permanently reduce hair. Patients experience comparable results to Laser Hair Removal.

How does it work?
A hand-held light-emitting device is applied to cooled skin. The light waves heat the hair shaft, which carries the energy to the hair follicle, putting an end to hair growth. Hair must be present within the skin for the treatment to work so patients should refrain from plucking or waxing hair for about four weeks prior to treatment.

Is there any downtime?
No downtime is involved; patients can return to normal activities immediately.

Are there any side effects?
Possible side effects include reddening of the skin and mild swelling. Burns, patchy regrowth and pigmentation changes are very rare.

How long do the results last?
The hair reduction should be permanent, though it will not eliminate 100% of hair growth, and occasional touch-ups may be necessary.

How many treatments are needed?
Because hair can only be affected during certain growth cycles, several treatments are necessary. Usually four to six sessions are required to achieve the desired effect.

How long does the treatment last?
The duration varies depending on your individual needs and the size of the area to be treated. Appointments usually range from a half hour to an hour.

How does the treatment feel?
Most patients experience a little discomfort. At ReViVe, we use a medical-grade cooling unit to blow cold air onto the skin during IPL treatment. Nonetheless, some patients may still feel heat or a slight stinging sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Who should avoid Intense Pulsed Light?
Patients with keloids, dark skin, dark tans or recent tans may not be ideal candidates. Darker skin tones are at an increased risk of side effects. Light colored or white hair cannot be treated with IPL. IPL is not recommended for pregnant women or clients taking medications that make them photosensitive.

What are alternative treatments?
Laser treatments, waxes, electrolysis and shaving are alternatives. At ReViVe, we have laser technology that allows use to treat darker skin types.
