Parham A. Ganchi, PhD, MD grew up in New Jersey where he attended Millburn High School. He graduated from Princeton University magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He received a scholarship to Duke University Medical School where he not only earned his MD degree, but also a PhD in molecular biology.

After 7 years at Duke, Dr. Ganchi traveled to Harvard University. He completed a full five-year general surgery residency at Harvard's renowned Brigham and Women's Hospital where he served as chief resident and received the chief resident teaching award. He continued at Harvard, spending 3 additional years as a member of the inaugural class of the prestigious Harvard Plastic Surgery program, where he served as chief resident for two consecutive years.

Over a period of 19 years, Dr. Ganchi has attended some of the nation's top institutions. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and Plastic Surgery and an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He has numerous publications in leading scientific and plastic surgery journals. Dr. Ganchi has presented his work at national and regional conferences and received awards and patents for his work. He has authored chapters in plastic surgery textbooks and invented novel cosmetic procedures. He has been selected as one of New Jersey's Top Plastic Surgeons and one of the New York Metro Region's Top Plastic Surgeons by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd, one of the nation's leading medical research firms and as one of America's Top Plastic Surgeons by the Consumers' Research Council of America.

Dr. Ganchi has trained plastic surgery residents at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. His expertise has been sought by physicians and surgeons in the region for the management of complex plastic surgery patients. He is well versed in the latest techniques including laser surgery, endoscopic procedures with minimal scars, and reconstruction of deformities. How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal uses a low-energy laser to gently remove unwanted hair. The laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. In a fraction of a second, the energy is transformed into heat and the hair follicle is destroyed. Quick and convenient, full face, bikini line and underarm treatments may take as little as 15 minutes. Several treatments may be required to destroy follicles in different growth cycles. Since the laser targets the pigment of the hair follicle, laser hair removal is most effective on light-skinned patients with dark hair. Modern technology allows laser hair removal to be effective in darker skin types as well.

Since no procedure can guarantee permanent hair removal, most patients can expect a major reduction in hair growth, leaving remaining hair thinner and lighter in color.

Am I good candidate for laser hair removal?
In general, patients with light skin and dark hair are ideal candidates for laser hair removal. As a rule, the pigment in dark hair absorbs more laser energy, making black or brown hair easier to treat. Light hair, such as blonde, red or gray, contains a pigment that absorbs laser energy less readily,and therefore does not respond well. While laser treatments for darker skinned patients have
improved, patients with tanned skin are not ideal candidates. It’s recommended they wait until their tan fades before proceeding with laser hair removal.

How many treatments will I need?
The number of hair removal treatments required for optimal long-term benefits usually depends on the area being treated, the hair density and the patient’s hair growth cycle. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet all play a part in a patient’s hair distribution, thickness and resilience. Total hair removal usually requires six to eight 15-minute sessions for optimal results.
