Susan Stevens Tanne, M.D. specializes in non–invasive, no downtime cosmetic laser and aesthetic medicine for skin rejuvenation and body contouring. Dr. Tanne graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University, completed her medical training at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Saint Vincent's Medical Center in New York, and has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. Dr. Tanne combines her laser expertise with medical experience and artistry to create excellence for her patients. Her enthusiasm and gentle caring manner inspire confidence and trust.

However, skin type, hair color, and tanned skin have been major limitations. How does the ELOS laser hair removal treatment work?

Cosmetic Laser MD is the first and only office in the area to offer a complete laser hair removal system using the revolutionary ELOS (Electro–Optical–Synergy) system. Basically translated, it means that it combines Bi–Polar RF (Radio Frequency) and a high power Diode LASER, requiring lower overall energy levels for superior results and maximum safety, and is the fastest, most effective hair removal laser available.

One of the most important benefits of ELOS technology is that it makes laser hair removal available to people with darker skin tones as well as lighter hair colors. Hair removal lasers work by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle and destroying it. However, red, white, and blond hair lack pigment and therefore, cannot be treated with conventional hair removal lasers. This is where ELOS rises above the rest. What results can I expect from Laser Hair Removal?

ELOS uses lower overall energy levels for superior results and maximum safety. As hair grows in cycles, six treatments are usually necessary for permanent hair reduction but the actual number needed for optimal long–term benefits will depend on hair color, skin type, as well as the area that is being treated. In general, light colored hair will require more treatments. Most patients like to continue treatments until the hair is gone. Even large areas of the body, such as the back and legs, can be treated quickly since the laser scans the skin rather than treating one hair at a time.

What is the treatment like?

It is important to avoid waxing or plucking prior to your treatment because these modalities remove the hair follicle and leave nothing for the laser to target. The procedure is well tolerated by most patients. Numbing cream may be needed, especially for sensitive areas. It is applied and left on the skin for up to 30 minutes prior to the treatment. After shaving the area, the treatment itself can vary from five to 60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated and feels like a little rubber band snapping against the skin. There is no downtime so you can resume your normal daily activities immediately. Occasionally, there can be transient redness that usually resolves within a day or two.
